MTN-Sudan Commemorates Nelson Mandela International Day

 

Under its long partnership with international and local sectors and in collaboration with  the Embassy of the Republic of South Africa in Khartoum along with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Ibnauf hospital for Children and Rescue Youth Organization beside a number of Consulates and organizations working in Khartoum, MTN-Sudan celebrated Nelson Mandela International Day in recognition of the  97 birth anniversary birthday of this prominent African leader  who became known and respected all over the world as a symbol of the struggle against apartheid and all forms of racism. This Day was officially declared by the United Nations in 18 July 2009 in recognition to Mandela's contribution to the culture of peace and freedom.

It worth mentioning that MTN-Sudan, for the third consecutive time, sponsors this big event  with its above partners among them the Rescue Youth Organization who volunteered, in honor of this auspicious occasion, to rehabilitate the  pediatric ward in Ibnauf hospital for Children and added vibrant, brightly colored wall paintings to the building to be a child-friendly hospital in a suitable stable environment.

The Minister of Health in Khartoum State Prof. Dr. Mamoun Humeida expressed his thanks and gratitude to all those who participated in this very historic occasion. On his part, HE the Ambassador of South Africa in Khartoum Mr. Francis Melowee  greeted all the attendees who have accepted the invitation to participate in this solemn event. HE the Ambassador also extended warm greetings to the Republic of Sudan, Government and people, for their great and active role in supporting the freedom fighter late Nelson Mandela in his unstoppable run towards freedom "Mandela had been issued a Sudanese Passport in recognition of his stature in the collective conscience and psyche of the people of Sudan," said HE the Ambassador. 

Eng. Abdalla Alfadil, General Manager Corporate Affairs, MTN-Sudan thanked all those who provided this great opportunity to MTN-Sudan to take active part in this big event which is dear to all Africans. "In MTN-Sudan we believe that this celebration is a reminder underscoring the importance of education in a world where knowledge truly is the far more powerful tool, education and literacy are the basic building blocks that unlock the gates of opportunity and success," said Abdalla, "We follow the same approach in MTN, where we dedicate our strategy in the sphere of Social responsibility in order to support and promote education and ICT," he added.

In this connection, it should be pointed out that the whole world in general and the African continent in particular celebrate annually Nelson Mandela International Day. This global icon who dedicated 67 years of his life struggling to raise hope for a better future that will free the individual from fear and despair, oppression, famine, poverty and ignorance, and provide him with a dignified life.
